The Indian construction sector’s contribution to GDP has stayed fairly constant at around 7-8% for the last five years. It is the second largest employer after agriculture, and forecasts indicate that for the Twelfth Plan period the aggregate output of the industry is likely to be ₹52.31 lakh crores. Given these facts and the strong backward and forward linkages of the sector with other manufacturing industries, construction is a natural priority sector. This study therefore focuses on the construction industry. It attempts to determine where the potential lies, for it to contribute to the dual objectives of the ‘’Make in India’’ initiative and to meet increasing demand for construction.
