The data relating to food borne and water borne diseases is limited in India. Therefore, there is a need to set up a database which can work as a warning signal and be helpful for the country to limit losses. Our study conducted in partnership with The Foundation for Millennium Sustainable Development Goals (FMSDGs) attempts to estimate the economic burden of food and water contamination in India using credible global and Indian databases. It also analyses various components of the food sector over output, employment and consumption to understand the demand and supply dynamics of the sector.
