Corporate social responsibility and sustainability have assumed greater significance because of growing inequity, threat to natural environment and the meltdown of some of the global corporate giants in recent years.
TARI’s research work revolves around the rapidly evolving legal framework and global best practices surrounding these concepts with the objective of helping policy makers and other stakeholders to adopt a development model which fulfils the aspirational needs and yet is sustainable in the long run.
Our work has gained recognition. One of our study, Sustainability Reporting at Crossroads: Practices and Trends, 2012, is a part of The CSR International Research Compendium (Volume I – Governance) published in the UK in 2015, which profiled the best research papers in the world on corporate sustainability, social responsibility and business ethics between 2009 and 2014. We have also contributed to Responsible Business (Module 5) in Ministry of Corporate Affairs, (IICA)’s book on Corporate Governance (published by Taxmann).
We help corporate entities in drawing up a combined sustainability strategy; align it with their wider business strategy as well as the imperatives of Companies Act of 2013. Such a structured approach to sustainability facilitates early and systematic identification and assessment of environmental and social risks and integrates management of such risks into the project cycles. We believe that such risk management is not just a compliance issue but a way of handling operations with significant long term impacts.
We have developed a methodology for calculating social return on investment (SROI) to assess the impact of sustainability and CSR projects using a quantitative social accounting methodology specific to a company. Our work includes guiding and developing CSR and sustainability reports too.
Some of our works are listed here with links for easy reference:

Our latest book “CSR in India Steering Business toward Social Change” is a contribution to the effort to reduce some of the nebulousness that characterises CSR and bridge the gap in systemic formality between CSR and other disciplines.
